Alignment

Step #2: Alignment

BEFORE YOU READ ANY FURTHER:
Do you have a plan? Do you know what success looks like? Know where you are today? Do you know how big the gap between the two is and strategies to close it? If you don’t have a clearly articulated plan, click here to take one step back and we’ll show you how to develop one.

This critical next step CANNOT be skipped.

ALIGNMENT WITHIN A COMPANY OR TEAM
It’s not enough for a leader to articulate the strategy. Without understanding and buy-in from the rest of the team, the organization won’t move forward efficiently or effectively. In fact, progress can come to a grinding halt.

What’s needed is clear light of sight. Each individual must:
  • Know what the vision is
  • Know how it was developed
  • Understand why it is important
  • Recognize their individual role in achieving it
In a small company, alignment typically can be created through facilitated meetings or an internal communication plan. In a larger company, we recommend a thoughtful, robust combination of the two.

ALIGNMENT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL:
As an individual, your success depends on your own self confidence as well as a little help from your support system—spouse, family, friends, mentor—it helps to have them backing you up. Once your plan is developed, you’ll want to share it with the people who surround and influence you—and to ask for their support.

“In today’s fast moving business environment, we don’t have time for the CEO to have a vision and single handedly pull us along to reach it. When we all understand the vision and work together, the whole company moves as one, faster so we can not only keep up, but lead our industry.”

“We were stuck. Our lead product was on the downward side of its lifecycle and we needed time and revenues to expand our product line and introduce a new product to the marketplace. SARA’s communication plan rallied everyone in the company, and together, the entire team pulled the company through a downturn and successfully launched a new product that put us back on the growth track.”

“Without everyone’s understanding of where we’re going and their role in helping us get there, we were in chaos – growing in fits and starts. Once on the same page, we really took off.”
